Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join the growing VascVersa team in Belfast, as a Research Assistant. This role will involve working alongside members from MarraBio Ltd, a Newcastle-upon-Tyne-based company developing ground-breaking technology for the manufacture of recombinant proteins, as part of an Innovate UK funded project awarded jointly between the companies.
The successful candidate will contribute to the success of this project by supporting VascVersa researchers to optimise a process for the isolation and expansion of VascVersa’s revolutionary ANGICYTE® cells. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and organised individual with a strong interest in scientific research and cell therapies
Key Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the generation of vascular cells from blood donations, and for the growth and maintenance of vascular cells, demonstrating strict adherence to aseptic technique

To maintain accurate records of laboratory activities and results

To present results in written reports and oral presentations at team meetings

To effectively work alongside and communicate with team members and collaborators to ensure project milestones are delivered
Essential Skills:
-
A high standard of aseptic technique for mammalian cell culture
-
Ability to handle blood from human donors
-
Experience of basic mammalian cell culture, to include reagent/media preparation, cell counting, and passaging
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable Skills:
-
Experience in working with adherent cells, specifically vascular cells
-
Experience in using flow cytometry for immunophenotyping
-
Experience in collecting media samples for proteomic analysis
-
Able to perform routine sterility testing

Education and Training:
At least a BSc in Human Biology, Biomedical Science, or related science discipline, with prior experience of working in a laboratory setting conducting standard mammalian cell culture.

This position may require occasional evening or weekend work, depending on research needs.
