What are ECFCs

First described in 2004 ( Endothelial Colony-Forming Cells (ECFCs) are a high-potency subtype of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs). Over the last decade several research groups have been investigating the vasoreparative potential of EPCS and  more recently ECFCs have been identified as a suitable candidates for cell therapy due to their unequivocal endothelial phenotype and inherent ability to promote vasculogenesis.

Vascversa arose from the work carried out by Dr Christina O'Neil under Prof Alan Stitt and Prof Reinhold Medina. Dr O’Neill pioneered the isolation of these vascular stem cells, and optimised processes for the production, expansion and charactisation of Vascversa’s Angicyte.
